Plainview Milk Products Cooperative recalls milk products for possible Salmonella contamination

Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin is alerting consumers to the recall of some milk products -- sold only to industrial customers -- that may be contaminated with Salmonella.  The recalled products may have been produced as early as two years ago.

Plainview Milk Products Cooperative, Plainview, Minn., is voluntarily recalling all instant nonfat dried milk, whey protein, fruit stabilizers and gums (thickening agents) that had been manufactured over the past two years.  The products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Plainview Milk Products are sold to industry customers, including distributors and manufacturers, who may have incorporated them into their own products.   Plainview’s products are not sold directly to the public.  The recall is limited to industrial customers only who may have received the product.

FDA found the Salmonella contamination of some equipment at the Plainview Milk Products Cooperative during an investigation to track the source contamination USDA reported finding in a dry milk product.  No illnesses related to the products have been reported to thet Centers for Disease Control.

FDA is conducting the investigation with CDC, USDA, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and state and local health departments.
